Dr. Eiji Nambara University of Toronto

Eiji Nambara is a Professor in the Department of Cell & Systems Biology (CSB), University of Toronto. His research is on how plants utilize available water and nutrients for growth and adaptation to environmental changes. His research focuses on the functions of plant hormones, especially abscisic acid, using phytochemical, genetic and physiological analyses.

Dr. Nambara received his PhD in Metabolic Regulation from Nagoya University, Japan. After getting PhD, he worked as a faculty in Hokkaido University and then moved to University of Toronto as a research associate. He was a team leader at RIKEN Plant Science Center, Japan, from 2001-2008. He was appointed as an assistant professor in CSB, University of Toronto, Canada, in 2008 and became a full professor in 2017. In the P2IRC project, he has worked in a multidisciplinary team with Drs. Sue Abrams, Chris Phenix and Raju Soolanayakanahally to develop tools and methods to visualize ABA transport in canola.
