Register now for the 2022 P2IRC Symposium

After two years of virtual events, the annual Plant Phenotyping and Imaging Research Centre (P²IRC) Symposium is returning as an in-person conference in Saskatoon.

On Oct. 25, researchers, students, industry representatives and other guests will meet for a full day of engaging presentations exploring this year’s theme: Growing the Future with Digital Agriculture.

The event will include highlights from P2IRC and talks from other leading researchers, including Dr. Valerio Hoyos-Villegas of McGill University, Dr. Asheesh Singh of Iowa State University and Dr. Etienne Yergeau of the Institut national de la recherche scientifique Université du Québec.

Dr. Valerio Hoyos-Villegas obtained his MS in Crop Physiology from the University of Missouri-Columbia and his PhD from Michigan State University (USA) in Plant Breeding, Genetics and Biotechnology. In 2019, he joined as Assistant Professor of Plant Breeding and Genetics at McGill University, where he holds a research, teaching and service appointment. 

This seminar will focus on the work that the Pulse Breeding and Genetics laboratory carries out in the advancement of phenomics and genomics for the acceleration of genetic gain for the development of pulse crop varieties. Read full profile

Dr. Asheesh (Danny) Singh is a Professor of Agronomy and Soybean Breeder at the Iowa State University. Upon completion of PhD from the University of Guelph in 2007, he worked as a durum wheat breeder in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. In 2013, he joined ISU as an assistant professor. In his career, he has helped develop more than 75 varieties and germplasm lines with wide uptake by farmers in production fields. Read full profile

Dr. Etienne Yergeau studies microbes that cover the outside and inside of trees, crops, animals, ice, soil and water. He completed a master focusing on the fungal pathogens associated with asparagus, followed by a PhD looking at the effects of global warming on Antarctic soil microbes. As an associate professor at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique of the Université du Québec, he leads a team of scientists in the field of plant-microbiome interactions.
